LowLou is a Brooklyn-based sustainable design studio developing handmade sauna accessories. Our first products are sauna hats crafted from custom felted wool produced through the Hudson Valley Textile Project. We use exclusively New York-grown and processed fibers.

 

Claire founded LowLou in 2026 after learning the Finnish word “löyly” (pronounced “low-loo”) while attending a sauna event. While there is no direct English translation, löyly refers to the steam created by pouring water over hot stones in a sauna. Although sauna culture (and sauna hats!) are well-established in countries like Finland, they are only beginning to take hold in the United States. LowLou hopes to help shape this budding sauna culture by providing beautiful and sustainable sauna hats that will improve the sweat sessions of sauna-lovers.
